Home What Do I Do With...? Living Green Less-Toxic Alernatives Can I Burn?

Electronics legislation has been passed in Vermont banning the disposal of many electronic devices from landfills starting January 1, 2011. Beginning July 1, 2011, electronics manufacturers are required to provide FREE collection and recycling of many of the devices. Some items will still carry a charge to consumers. Check out http://www.anr.state.vt.us/dec/e-waste/ for more information as well as Get the 411 on electronics disposal in Vermont.

Special - one day Electronics Collection - October 2010. The Solid Waste Alliance Communities and the Rutland County Solid Waste District hosted a FREE one-day electronics collection for all Rutland County residents on Saturday, October 30, 2010. Many towns also opted to participate in a pre-collection of materials. Materials were collected from the pre-collection towns and were aggregated the week following the collection. The event was sponsored and paid for by Panasonic, Sharp, Sony, Toshiba, Visio, IBM, and LG. Good Point Recycling located in Middlebury, Vermont, was hired to coordinate the event. SWAC would like to thank the electronics manufacturers for their generous financial support that allowed this project to take place. It currently costs $.25 per pound to recycle electronics. The materials collected during this event would have cost SWAC and the District appproximately $22,000! The amount of materials collected was astounding.
